Israeli military forces carried out the demolition of the Hamas Legislative Council building in Gaza after
On November 15, Ofir Gendelman, the spokesperson for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, announced that their ground forces had successfully demolished the Hamas Legislative Council building. Situated in the heart of Gaza City, the largest city in the Gaza Strip and considered a stronghold of Hamas, the facility was targeted by Israeli forces.
Gendelman shared a one-minute video capturing the moment of the building's destruction. The footage shows the structure collapsing after a blast, accompanied by a large plume of dust and smoke.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) had previously reported on November 14 that their military had taken control of several buildings belonging to the Hamas government while advancing into Gaza City. Among these structures were the legislative council, the administrative complex of the government, and the Hamas police headquarters. Images were released depicting Israeli soldiers holding the national flag inside the legislative council building.
In late October, Israel intensified its military campaign in the Gaza Strip in response to a Hamas incursion on October 7. On November 13, Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant stated that Hamas militants were retreating to the south, although no evidence was provided to support this claim.
