Will Smith banned from Oscars for 10 years

The

met Friday morning to for actor Will Smith's slap of presenter Chris Rock during the 94th Oscars presentation, and voted to bar Smith from all Academy events, including the Oscars, for ten years.

Smith, who resigned from the Academy last week,

shortly afterwards, stating, "I accept and respect the Academy's decision."

The organization didn't have many other options, especially since Smith's membership was no longer active as a result of his resignation. His resignation and exclusion from future telecasts do not stop him from being nominated for, or winning, future Academy Awards during that time period.
