China reports big jump in COVID hospitalisations

According to

published by on Thursday, China reported a significant increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations in the week ending January 15, the highest since the epidemic began.

The WHO, however, stated that it was awaiting "

disaggregated by week of reporting" on roughly 60,000 additional COVID-related hospital deaths reported by China last week and did not include these in the total.

According to a WHO study based on statistics given by Beijing, the number of persons hospitalized with the disease in China increased by 70% to 63,307 from the previous week. This is China's highest weekly statistic since COVID-19 was introduced more than three years ago.
