Microsoft is testing ads in the Windows 11 File Explorer

Microsoft has begun

in the File Explorer app on Windows 11 Insider PCs. The new Windows 11 "feature" was spotted by a Windows user and Insider MVP who posted a screenshot of shown above the listing of folders and files to the File Explorer, .

Microsoft will use similar advertisements to sell other Microsoft products, such as how to "

across documents, email, and the web with from Microsoft Editor."

As you would expect, the response was mixed, with some claiming that File Explorer is "one of the worst locations to display adverts," while others claiming that this is the way to go if Microsoft wants "people leaving Explorer for something else."
