The sequence of events began in mid-November when Nguyen Van Linh, a 27-year-old resident of Binh Minh town in Kim Son district, rented an abandoned house from Mr. Tran Van Chinh. Investigating online tutorials on crafting fireworks, Linh enlisted the help of Mai Thi Xang (30 years old) and Luong Thi Giang (28 years old), both residing in the same district, to assist in the production of fireworks for sale during the upcoming Tet holiday.

On the evening of December 7th, while assembling and packaging the fireworks in the kitchen, an unexpected explosion occurred at around 5:00 PM. As a result, the two women lost their lives, and Giang's 4-year-old son, who was in the adjacent bedroom, suffered minor injuries. The blast extensively damaged the house, blowing off most of the roof and causing several wall segments to collapse, scattering debris over a considerable distance.
