German artist Boris Eldagsen has refused to accept his prize after winning the creative open category at the Sony World Photography Award. Eldagsen's entry, called Pseudomnesia: The Electrician, turned out to be an AI creation. He explained that he used the entry to test the competition and create a discussion about the future of photography. However, the organisers of the award said that Eldagsen had misled them about the extent of AI that would be involved.
Eldagsen released a statement on his website in which he admitted that he had been "a cheeky monkey". He thanked the judges for selecting his image and for making it
