Impeachment process of President Yoon Suk Yeol set to begin

According to TTXVN reporters in Seoul, the

President Yoon was suspended from office on December 14, following the National Assembly’s decision to impeach him over his responsibility for issuing

Local media reported that, as of the morning of December 26, President Yoon had yet to submit the requested Cabinet meeting minutes related to the martial law decree or any other evidence required by the Constitutional Court, despite missing the deadline. He also had not appointed any legal representation.

On December 26, the Constitutional Court convened a meeting of judges to discuss the progress of the case and possible responses if President Yoon continues to refuse to submit the necessary documents. The court confirmed that the preliminary session on December 27 would focus on preparing the defense for the upcoming arguments.

This is the initial phase aimed at organizing the arguments and plans ahead of the formal impeachment hearings. While attendance is not mandatory at this stage, representatives from both sides usually present basic views on the impeachment proposal and outline their defense strategies.

The official impeachment trial is expected to begin its formal debates as early as mid-January 2025.
