During a court hearing in Los Angeles on October 2, Dr. Chavez, 53, admitted to the charges and agreed to stop practicing medicine and surrender his passport. He now faces a potential 10-year prison sentence.
Currently out on bail after posting $50,000, Dr. Chavez expressed deep remorse through his lawyer. "He is doing everything he can to make up for this terrible mistake," his attorney told reporters outside the courthouse.
