Tropical Storm Yagi gathers strength in the East Sea

In the early hours of September 3rd, Tropical Storm Yagi entered the East Sea, becoming the third storm in the region this year. It is forecasted to strengthen as it approaches the coastal provinces from Quang Ninh to Phu Yen.
By 7 a.m. the next day, the storm is expected to be about 740 km east of Hainan Island, China, with maximum winds intensifying to Category 9-10, and gusts up to Category 12. The storm will maintain its direction but slow down to 10 km/h. By 7 a.m. on September 5th, Yagi is forecasted to be approximately 400 km east of Hainan Island, with winds reaching Category 11-12 and gusts up to Category 14.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Huong, Head of Weather Forecasting at the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, Yagi is expected to intensify continuously as it encounters
Since the beginning of the year, the East Sea has experienced two storms. Notably, on July 23rd, Tropical Storm Prapiron made landfall in Quang Ninh, causing heavy rainfall across most of northern Vietnam, resulting in 14 fatalities and 5 missing persons in Hanoi, Dien Bien, Son La, Thai Nguyen, and Bac Giang.
