English scores lowest among Vietnam's high school graduation examination subjects

During this year's high school graduation exams in Vietnam, the English subject recorded

Specifically, the English test saw a total of 876,102 examinees, and the results revealed a median score of 5.2 and a mode score of 4.2, both the lowest among all subjects. The Ministry of Education and Training released these statistics on a Tuesday, painting a concerning picture of the English performance in the exams.

On the brighter side, some subjects performed exceptionally well. Civics Education, Literature, and Chemistry were the top three subjects with the highest average scores, showcasing scores of 8.29, 6.86, and 6.74, respectively. However, the vast majority of English test takers struggled, with over 44.8% of examinees scoring below 5. In contrast, only 494 examinees managed to achieve a perfect score of 10 in the English test.

It is worth noting that in the previous year, the average English score for nearly 978,000 examinees was slightly higher at 5.15, surpassing Biology's average score of 5.02. However, Biology's mode score last year was 4.5, while English's mode score stood at 3.8, indicating a higher number of students who scored relatively low in the English subject.
