Discovery of Over 20 Mysterious Radio Signals from Space

A team of Australian

has developed a specialized method to analyze radio signals from space, aiding in identifying their origins. The research, led by Dr. Andy Wang from the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR) at Curtin University, focuses on (FRBs)—brief, that can emit as much energy in a moment as the Sun does in a day. Dr. Wang stated, "CRACO helps us search for these bursts better than ever before. We can scan 100 times per second and potentially increase to 1,000 times per second in the future."

In its trial run, the system detected two fast radio bursts, two

emitting neutron stars, and the locations of four pulsars— . Notably, they also discovered over 20 additional fast radio bursts. Scientists believe these bursts can travel billions of light-years, carrying information about the distribution of matter in space, which could help otherwise invisible.

CRACO will soon be available as part of Australia's National Telescope Facility, allowing scientists worldwide to search for fast radio bursts and other unusual signals. Researchers hope this technology will uncover new mysteries about star formation, neutron stars, or even black hole activity.
