Giant Smoke Column in Hanoi: Authorities Urged to Take Action

Residents in Mai Động Ward, Hoàng Mai District, Hanoi, have expressed

over the thick smoke by Hanoi Industrial Textile Joint Stock Company. The company's 40-50 meter tall chimney releases dense smoke with a burning , the health and daily lives of nearby inhabitants. ​

On March 15, local authorities inspected the company's operations and confirmed the presence of smoke and odors from the fabric finishing workshop,

residents' complaints. ​

In response, the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment has

the company to relocate its polluting production facilities out of the residential area between April and August. This decision has been welcomed by the community, who have long awaited from the pollution.
