In response to the approaching Typhoon Yagi, students in Hanoi and nine other provinces were instructed to stay home on September 7. In some areas, classes were suspended starting today. On the morning of September 6, the Departments of Education and Training in Hanoi, Thái Bình, Hà Nam, Phú Thọ, Bắc Ninh, Ninh Bình, and Nam Định announced that all preschool and school-aged children would be excused from attending school.
Typhoon Yagi marks the third storm to hit Vietnam this year. As of midday yesterday, Yagi reached wind speeds of up to 201 km/h, categorizing it as a level 16 super typhoon. It is considered one of the most powerful storms in the East Sea over the last decade.
As of this morning, Yagi has maintained its strength as a super typhoon and is expected to enter the Gulf of Tonkin later this evening.
After making landfall, Yagi is anticipated to move deeper into northeastern Vietnam, bringing winds of 39-74 km/h (levels 6-8), with gusts reaching levels 9-11. The period of the strongest winds is expected between the morning and late evening of September 7.
